What the Finder actually verifies

The Finder first calculates a required clear envelope from the object dimensions, count/arrangement and the selected access allowances. It then keeps physical fit separate from preferences. A product is excluded when current stored evidence proves that the exterior footprint cannot fit the site, usable width/length/height is too small, or a selected non-negotiable structure/material requirement conflicts.

Missing evidence is treated differently from a known failure. If a critical clearance or footprint field is absent or ambiguous, the product may remain a possible fit, but it cannot be promoted to a verified dimensional fit on the basis of the missing field.

Why nominal size is not enough

A model advertised as “20×20” can have a different roof footprint, frame/base dimension and clear opening. The Finder uses the dimension that controls the specific decision: exterior roof/overall footprint for the site, usable or entrance width for the vehicle envelope, and documented travel-path clearance for height. It does not use peak height as an RV-clearance substitute.

How Carport Fit Scores work

Exact products and installed providers stay separate

Shipped-kit records are exact products/configurations with product-level dimensions. Installed companies often configure a structure only after location, size, roof, enclosure, certification and other selections are known. Provider results therefore mean “this provider's stored service-area evidence supports further consideration,” not “CarportFit verified a specific installed SKU.”

Frequently asked questions

Does the highest Fit Score mean the strongest or safest carport?

No. Fit Score ranks buyer fit among eligible records using the documented inputs and selected preferences. It is not a structural-strength, quality, safety or code-compliance score.

Why can a product show as a possible fit when its listed size looks large enough?

Because nominal width, length or height may not establish actual roof footprint, clear opening or full travel-path clearance. Missing critical evidence stays unknown rather than being guessed.

Why does the Finder ask for the site width and length?

A carport can provide adequate vehicle room and still exceed the available roof footprint. Site screening uses documented exterior/roof dimensions where available and tests 90-degree rotation only for configurations that can reasonably be rotated.

Does a wind or snow preference mean the Finder knows my local code requirement?

No. Climate preferences only increase the value of relevant manufacturer-published evidence in the ranking. CarportFit does not infer local design loads or certify a product for an address.

Why are installed providers shown separately from exact products?

Installed structures are commonly configured by location and options instead of sold as one stable cross-country SKU. Provider cards therefore represent service-area/capability evidence rather than a verified exact configuration.
